Andrew Dobson Architects
WebWorks is pleased to work with Andrew Dobson Architects from London, UK. Andrew Dobson Architects pride themselves, not only on their design and architect craft, but also their integrity, creativity, and their passion to make a difference through design.
We were asked to create a website that brought the very essence of what Andrew Dobson Architects stands for, and what they passionately provide. Capturing ethos and zeal and converting it to website code is part and parcel what we do here at WebWorks.
The first stage in any website build is a research and analysis process. We took the time to understand Andrew Dobson Architects, to get a sense of who they are, not just what they do. When we start to understand the personality, it becomes much easier to make decisions on design and structure.
When we were confident that we had enough to start the build process, we turned to Joomla as our platform of choice. We use Joomla for many website builds because of its stability, active development, expandability, and our long history with it. Joomla has never failed to deliver brilliant results that we can be proud of, and this project was no different.
Our process is to build an initial paint of the website first, which we then share and discuss with the client, just to confirm that we're all on the same page. Beginning the first initial design stage is the trickiest bit, we take pen to completely empty paper. Deep breath. And Begin.
We take inspiration from whatever we can. In this case, we took design elements from the logo. The design of the logo is very clean cut, straight lines and modern-industrial looking. We tried to bring that feel into the design of the website, whilst also maintaining a warmer feel. Whilst Andrew Dobson Architects is indeed sleek, modern, and clean cut - it is also, primarily, a residential architects. It's important to keep that in the design. That's why we chose that specific image for the home page, whilst a picture of a lovely well-design kitchen could have accurately articulated what Andrew Dobson Architects does, a kitchen could be in a snazzy office building. A house is a residential building, but more than that, a house is a home.
That's what we wanted to portray in the very first website paint that the user sees. This is home.
